ECU Tuning for Cars, 4WDs, Boats, Machinery & More

If it has an engine and an ECU, talk to us about tuning it.

ECU Tunes provides professional ECU remapping, chip tuning and transmission tuning for vehicle owners, performance enthusiasts and automotive workshops across Australia.

From European performance cars and diesel 4WDs to commercial vehicles, boats and ECU-controlled machinery, our tuning catalogue covers a huge range of makes, models, engines and control units.

Want more power and torque? Need the ECU calibration adjusted for engine modifications? Looking for a gearbox tune? Or are you a workshop with an ECU read that needs professional calibration?

That is what we do.

What can we tune?

Our ECU tuning capability extends far beyond one vehicle brand or engine type.

We work with electronic engine and transmission control systems across a wide range of applications, including passenger vehicles, European performance cars, diesel 4WDs, utes, commercial vehicles, trucks, boats, marine engines, agricultural vehicles, equipment, machinery and competition vehicles.

If you cannot find your vehicle or application in our tuning catalogue, do not assume we cannot tune it. Send us the make, model, engine and ECU details and we will check the available tuning options.

ECU remapping and chip tuning

Modern engines are controlled by software inside the Engine Control Unit.

The ECU uses calibration data to manage fuel delivery, ignition, boost pressure, torque requests, air management and engine protection strategies.

ECU remapping allows the original engine calibration to be professionally modified for a specific performance or vehicle requirement.

Depending on the vehicle and ECU, tuning may improve power output, torque delivery, throttle response, mid-range performance, turbocharger response and engine behaviour after hardware modifications.

The term chip tuning is still commonly used, particularly for older ECUs where direct electronic access to a memory device may be required. For modern vehicles, ECU tuning and ECU remapping more accurately describe the calibration process.

Transmission and gearbox tuning

Engine tuning is only one part of a modern performance vehicle.

Automatic and dual-clutch transmissions have their own control software, torque limits and shift strategies.

We provide transmission calibration for supported control units and applications, including performance gearbox tuning such as the ZF 8HP transmission.

Depending on the gearbox and software version, transmission tuning may improve shift speed, paddle response, torque handling, shift points, manual mode behaviour, launch strategy and performance driving modes.

Looking for a tune for your own vehicle?

You do not need to be a workshop or professional tuner to use ECU Tunes.

If you own the vehicle, boat or machine and want to know what tuning options are available, send us the vehicle details, including make, model, year, engine, current modifications, current faults and what you want to improve.

Depending on the ECU, the tuning process may be completed with the vehicle, by sending us the control unit, or through a supported tuning workshop.

ECU tuning support for workshops and dealers

ECU Tunes has supported automotive trade professionals since 2010.

Our dealer tuning service allows workshops, mechanics, diesel specialists and performance businesses to offer ECU tuning to their own customers without developing calibration files in-house.

You read the original ECU or TCU file using compatible tuning equipment, submit the file through the ECU Tunes dealer portal, and our team completes the calibration work for you to download and write back to the control unit.

This allows your workshop to add professional tuning services while retaining the direct relationship with your customer.

How dealer file tuning works

1. Read the original ECU or TCU file

Use your compatible tuning equipment to read the original software from the customer's control unit.

2. Submit the file to ECU Tunes

Log in to the dealer portal, select the appropriate tuning request and upload the original file.

3. Use your tuning credits

Dealer tuning services are purchased using credits through the ECU Tunes platform.

4. We calibrate the software

Our tuning team reviews the application and prepares the requested ECU or transmission calibration.

5. Download the completed tune

Once completed, download the modified file and write it back to the customer's ECU or TCU using your tuning equipment.

ECU tuning experience since 2010

Our tuning business began in 2010 as Audi Upgrades, initially focused on electronic upgrades and software solutions for Audi vehicles.

As vehicle electronics and engine management systems evolved, so did our capabilities. ECU Tunes was developed as a dedicated tuning operation supporting a much wider range of engines, control units and automotive professionals.

Today, our work combines automotive electronics, ECU software, diagnostics and practical vehicle testing.

We are backed by the technical capability of Euro Car Electronics, our automotive electronics and advanced diagnostics operation on the Sunshine Coast.

Tuning supported by electronics and diagnostic capability

Some control units can be programmed through the vehicle diagnostic port. Others require bench access, boot-mode programming or direct electronic work on the ECU.

Our electronics capability allows us to work with applications where the tuning process involves more than connecting a cable and selecting a vehicle from a list.

We have experience with ECU and TCU access, automotive electronics, control module programming and software-driven vehicle systems.

Where appropriate, vehicle testing and performance measurement can also form part of the development and validation process.

Can't find your vehicle in our tuning catalogue?

Our tuning catalogue shows the range of supported makes, models and engines, but it cannot represent every ECU and application we can assess.

This is especially important for older vehicles, engine conversions, modified engines, boats, marine applications, commercial vehicles, agricultural equipment, machinery and unusual ECU applications.

If it has an engine and an electronic control unit, send us the details. We will check the ECU, engine and available tuning options.
